Salary:£30,987 - £33,510 (BR12 pt.35 - 38) Bromley Council is committed to ensuring that the Children and Young People in Care play an active part in the planning and delivery of their services. Engaging young people in care is a challenging but extremely rewarding part of the work of the Children and Young People division of council and we are seeking to employ an experienced and imaginative worker to lead and develop a wide range of activities that will allow us to talk to and listen to young people more effectively. This is a full time role requiring the development and delivery of a strategy that will ensure the active participation of children and young people in care in the planning, decision-making and delivery of services that affect their lives. The post holder will set up and service a Children in Care Council and facilitate its interaction with senior officers and elected members of the council. He or she will also train and support those officers and elected member, ensuring that they are prepared for working with and including young people. They will be skilled at working with offices and elected members, having an understanding of democratic processes and be required to demonstrate a degree of challenge and creativity to enable change where it is needed. The role requires experience of report writing and delivery. The successful candidate will have experience of developing effective means of consulting and involving young people in the planning of events including the Celebration of Achievements, Healthy Living events educational and cultural events and visits and informal meetings with officers of the local authority. He or she will also bring their expertise to bear on the involvement of young people in the recruitment and training of social care staff and foster carers. Reporting to the Specialist Education Adviser for Children in Care, the post holder will sit within the Integrated Looked After Children’s Team and will work closely with social workers and managers across Prevention and Safeguarding.
