Employee Benefit Accounting - Pension Analyst [04/12/2010] |

Working closely with the GM Employee Benefit Manager for US plans, activities may involve working closely with other departments such as Employee Cost Analysis and interaction with various actuaries to obtain required input to support accounting activities for GM US pension plans. Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, creativity, and initiative. Responsibilities also include assisting in supervising the Employee Benefits Accounting team Daily / Monthly job duties will include: • Prepare analysis of financial statements for applicable areas and applicable sections of the annual report, government filings, and press releases • Consult with specialists on accounting and required reporting areas • Identify, interpret, and analyze potential accounting risks and issues • Prepare, and analyze various monthly journal entries and account reconciliations with a focus on US pension activities • Develop understanding of and ability to apply U.S. GAAP accounting and financial reporting standards and government rules and regulations • Analyze quantitative data or complex problems of various types • Develop new methods of analysis and methods of data presentation (charts, graphs, etc.) • Provide and maintain support documentation for approval of accounting work and ongoing controls testing • Identify / correct inconsistent data, solve problems and develop new methods of analysis • Develop and present data to other members of the organization • Coordinate information between departments such as Employee Cost Analysis • Maintain frequent contact with others outside the work group Basic Required: • Degree in Accounting and CPA or equivalent - active license holder • Previous Public Accounting experience (minimum 2 years) • Technical accounting knowledge and experience with employee benefits, including actuarial techniques & terminology, and HR issues • Strong interpersonal skills and strong oral and written skills • Demonstrated commitment to functional and cross-functional partnerships • Solid understanding of internal controls • Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities where problems are complex • High levels of initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and decision making
