Permanent post at the Met Office, Aberdeen Background information Met Office Marine Business Team is based in our Aberdeen office and offers a wide range of products and services to businesses across the whole of the commercial marine sector both in the UK and internationally. This new post has been created to support the existing team which is currently delivering a record number of tailored forecast services to a range of industries operating in the near and offshore marine environment. This new role is a vital piece in our plans to further expand our global share of the market. Specific job purpose To assist and support the Marine Business Team in selling products and services to new and existing Met Office customers to deliver profitable revenue as stipulated in the Programme Annual Operating Plan. Specific job responsibilities - To complete relevant documentation in support of the sales account and administrative team members.
- To sell services in commercial marine market sectors achieving revenue and profit as agreed with Marine Business Manager and in accordance with Met Office procedures.
- To feedback to marketing managers on specific market, customer or product information that could lead to development in these areas.
- To carry out an agreed number of customer contracts in order to develop and maintain customer relationships.
- To understand the product and service portfolio so that advice and quotes given to customers are the most appropriate and generate maximum revenue.
- To support the Account Managers liaising with colleagues and external customers as required.
- To follow and ensure the following of the sales procedures as set out in the Business Management System, including the use of Goldmine to report and process information.
Qualifications, skills and abilities required Essential - An effective communicator - both oral and written, with the ability to communicate in a coherent and persuasive manner.
- Demonstrate an ability to deliver results through a sales process or similar system.
- Proven experience of a good working relationship with colleagues.
- A self starter with ability to deliver multiple tasks under tight time constraints.
- Previous experience in outbound telephone work, making sales appointments or marketing follow-up work.
- Evidence of effective and timely issue resolution.
Desirable - Have a good knowledge of the Met Office and the products and services that it offers to the commercial sector.
- Proven experience of delivering sales targets.
- Previous experience of relationship development with external customers.
- Have had previous use of a Customer Relationship Management tool.
