Overall Job Summary: Manage resources to develop and transfer new instrumentation that are used in the design and manufacture of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) from Alcon's Research & Development (R&D) operations in Fort Worth, Texas and Huntington, West Virginia to manufacturing operations in Huntington, WV and Cork, Ireland. Assess capacity and ensure appropriate measurement instruments are provided to meet future demands. Represent the manufacturing operations in the generation of requirements for IOL measurement instrumentation. Manage timelines and priorities of projects in support of company launch goals, to ensure successful and timely implementations. All the above must be done in compliance with GMP, EN and ISO standards. Specifically, some of the expectations of a person in this people will be: - Serve as the primary liaison between FTW & HWV R&D Metrology groups.
- Manage HWV R&D instrument resources maintain transparency of HWV work
- Support generation/definition of instrumentation transfer process
- Act as Sustaining Engineer for instrumentation and methods
- Responsible for validation and transfer to production of new instruments and products
- Responsible to identify production demand and develop capacity plans for new instruments and products
- Maintain visibility of facility instrumentation capacity & communicate gaps to FTW
- Provide post-transfer production instrumentation feedback to FTW R&D group
- Project collation, proposal, maintenance, publication, visibility
- Coordinate escalation process of Metrology Instrumentation issues
- Provide HWV & Cork Manufacturing requirements for instrumentation design to R&D in FTW
- Coordinate instrument validation
- Ensure validated systems are transferred from R&D to Manufacturing
- Ensure the establishment of configuration control of systems
- Ensure adequate training provided for manufacturing transfer (calibration, troubleshooting, ECR operation)
- Serve as Key Coordinator for contract supplier selection and purchases
- Facilitate a team environment between HWV/Cork/FTW from Design to Transfer
- Manage capital/expense spending in coordination with FTW
- Must be able to demonstrate exceptional communication, both written and verbal
- Minimum Experience Requirements: Ten (10) years experience in engineering, five (5) of which must be at the supervisory level. Preference given to those candidates whose experience is in optical, electrical or mechanical engineering and can demonstrate experience with automation/software engineering. Experience in a medical device or similarly regulated environment preferred.
