You have good, all-round knowledge and experience of the housing profession, relating particularly to allocations, homelessness and temporary accommodation. The appointment is subject to satisfactory clearance from Disclosure Scotland and the provision of Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary and where they are available. Job Purpose
Responsible for management of the Council’s direct provision and liaison with other providers of temporary accommodation for homeless persons.
Seeking alternative solutions and new opportunities for such accommodation, where appropriate and making contact with those housed in temporary accommodation to give appropriate advice and guidance and provide a housing management service.
Main Tasks - Assist in day to day management of all temporary accommodation provided direct by the Council for homeless persons including supervision of staff, where appropriate
- Liaise closely with and monitor other landlords and providers of temporary accommodation used by the Council in connection with its responsibilities under homelessness legislation, ensuring they meet the Aberdeenshire Standard for temporary accommodation. Liaise with other agencies who provide/could provide care and support to clients
- Ensure regular contact is made with those placed into temporary accommodation, giving guidance and advice as appropriate, including options for securing permanent accommodation. Ensure residents adhere to their occupancy rules and that they maintain their temporary accommodation in a satisfactory manner
- Seek opportunities to increase temporary accommodation provision and alternative solutions to current provision; where appropriate, ensuring the Aberdeenshire Standard is met
Experience / Qualifications / Personal Qualities
Essential Criteria - Proven experience in social housing
- Relevant experience in working with members of the public
- Educated to standard grade level, or equivalent. Minimum passes in English, Mathematics or Arithmetic
- Good communication skills, verbal and written
- Able to organise workload
- Aware of customer and service needs
- Able to work independently and as a team member/leader
- Able to accept and provide support
- Ability to travel throughout Aberdeenshire
- Able to work out of hours on occasion (attend evening meetings etc)
Desirable Criteria - Knowledge of Homelessness legislation
- Experience with managing Temp accommodation units
- Experience of supervising staff
- HNC qualification in Housing or equivalent
- Working towards further relevant qualification
- Report writing skills
- Work with service development including customers
- Proven team working skills
