Managing Director - Ghana  [01/13/2010]

In brief:
This opportunity exists for an individual to develop a fledgling business into becoming the leading marketing research company in West Africa. In addition to achieving the financial targets, the MD is also responsible for talent management, business development and supporting global initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Introduce MB’s solutions into the West Africa Market
  • Achievement and control of annual budget for the Ghana Operation, including revenue, gross margin operating costs, operating profit and headcount
  • Client Satisfaction: constant improvement in measure of “truly loyal” clients as measured via the annual client survey
  • Employee Satisfaction: constant improvement in measure of “truly loyal” employees as measured via the annual employee survey
  • Management and control of budgets set for Ghana, including monitoring of gross margin and profitability of projects
  • Overseeing all relationships with clients, ensuring that their needs are being met and that they are receiving appropriate levels of service
  • New business development amongst existing clients and identification and development of new business opportunities outside the existing client base & geography’s
  • Providing leadership and clear direction to staff overall management of staff including overseeing
  • :
    • Recruitment of staff
    • Training and career development of staff
    • Annual evaluations and monitoring of progress
    • Setting goals and objectives for senior CS
  • Reinforce the CS team by hiring high quality executives
  • To develop current talent so that they are eligible for promotions
  • Consolidate the business development culture
  • Overall efficient management of the operation
  • Ensuring all MB procedures and policies are adhered to within the operations
  • Representation of Millward Brown at professional functions and activities
  • To keep participating in seminars, conferences and workshops
  • Maintain our financial systems: budgets, re-forecasts, monthly reports, etc.
  • Use technology to reduce data collection costs where possible
  • Increase the technical expertise levels of the company on statistics
  • To write & have published articles in specialized magazines so as to maximise MB’s thought leadership positioning in the market
  • Continue offering training: WPP/Kantar training courses as well as locally managed courses, to make the Client Service area more professional with respect to selling MB services & where appropriate in management skills
  • To implement the Millward Brown performance appraisal system in the new East Africa Office
  • To implement a communication programme with the employees

Requirements:

  • Minimum qualifications: 3 year degree with Honours, preferably in Research, Marketing or Business, economics.
  • At least 10 to 15 year’s relevant market research experience in a research agency, client company, or management or marketing consultancy.
  • Demonstrate a track record and/or flair for growing a business
  • Experience managing mid-sized team/office
  • Ability to lead on accounts and lead projects,
  • Strong people management skills
  • Personal Attributes: Passionate about research and the industry
  • Resilient, up for the challenge of a very demanding job in a high growth environment
  • Ability and willingness to be “hands-on” and contribute at different levels depending on organisation needs.
  • Ability to deal with complexity/ambiguity in the role and managing multiple (occasionally conflicting) priorities.
