Directorate:Hazardous Installations Directorate (HID)Location:Aberdeen or Bootle Salary: The maximum of the pay range is £62,793. You will be appointed within the range £53,930 to £57,815. The Aberdeen post will receive an additional Aberdeen Allowance of £5,000 p.a. rising to £10,000 p.a. in 2010. The role includes travel offshore for which there are additional allowances. Terms of appointment will be negotiated with the successful candidates with starting salary dependent on skills and experience. Under HSE's current pay arrangements, subject to an effective level of performance, staff progress annually towards the maximum of their pay scale. Background The post holder will be part of a team responsible for providing expertise in the field of structural and civil engineering integrity for the inspection of offshore installations. Your own technical advice should provide a sound basis for employers to set and maintain their own appropriate safety standards. About the Role - Carry out inspections with respect to structural integrity issues as part of the Directorate's work plan.
- Assess safety cases drawing conclusions as to the adequacy of the case itself and recommendations for future inspection topics.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and complaints as part of a team or alone.
- Provide support for enforcement action, including the preparation of technical reports, and provision of expert evidence in legal proceedings.
- Provide expert advice on health and safety matters associated with the specialist topic of structural integrity within HSE, Industry and other stakeholders.
- Make technical and strategic contributions to HSE's overall strategy.
Person Requirements - A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
- A Chartered Engineer having corporate membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Substantial post graduate experience.
- A good working knowledge of the application of your discipline skill to the offshore industry sector.
- Experience of design, construction, and integrity management for fixed and floating installations.
- Familiarity with relevant offshore standards
- Experience of the assessment of integrity and response to fire and explosion, impact, extreme weather, and foundation behaviour.
- Familiarity with risk assessment and risk management tools.
- You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements.
