Instructional Officer - Nottingham [01/02/2010]

To work within the local security strategy of the establishment, to manage tool checks/inventory
To maintain Health & Safety within the workshop. Working to safe use of equipment and operation regulations
To provide training to prisoners which may be of use for employment on release
To complete training records on all prisoners within the workshop
Contribute appropriate skills and technical knowledge in the training of prisoners to conform with the production requirements of the workshop, NVQ and City & Guilds
To develop and deliver qualifications to prisoners
To maintain stock and assist procurement with the purchase of materials/tools within your responsibility
To underpin the establishment's Greening Policy achieving establishment targets on reducing waste and recycling
To work in conjunction with partner agencies to deliver community payback projects
To assist the establishment with delivery of local contract activity
To maintain good communication with the Industrial Manager which maintains and support best practise for the establishment
Report all accidents/near misses

For vocational training/construction industry training:

ONC/BTEC/SCOTVEC NC/NVQ or equivalent

For production posts:
H&S inc. COSHH

Desirable:
Instructing/teaching/supervisory/production qualifications as appropriate including knowledge of NVQs where relevant. NVQ assessor qualification where relevant. Supervisory skills.

Salary: £17,989 - £24,022

Flexible working hours

The Prison service offers a flexible working system for certain grades.

Annual Leave

On entry most posts offer between 22 days and 25 days per year, with senior posts attracting an annual leave allowance of 30 days on entry. On top of this you will also receive public and privilege holidays. Leave for part-time and job share posts will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Season ticket advance

After two months service you will be eligible to apply for a season ticket advance to purchase a quarterly, or longer period season ticket for travel between home and office.

The Prison Service offers a childcare vouchers scheme. The scheme enables staff to take part of their salary in the form of Childcare Vouchers. This is known as a Salary Sacrifice. The vouchers can then be used to help meet the costs of any form of registered or approved childcare for children aged 0 -16. The vouchers are exempt from tax and National Insurance contributions.

Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS)
All Prison Officers and those working in regulated activity will be subject to the provisions of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. This seeks to ensure those who are deemed unsuitable from working with children and vulnerable adults are prevented from working in particular work settings or undertaking work of a specified nature. Barred individuals who seek to undertake work with vulnerable groups will be subject to criminal penalties.
