Job Description

To take an active part in the practical function of the ensuring that full establishment function is maintained.

  • To ensure that all work under your control is completed with regard to the security of the establishment, Health & Safety at Work legislation & financial propriety demonstrating best practice at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all Prison Service Orders so correct procedures are followed for the area in which you are employed
  • Take charge of prisoners when required, ensure that prisoner training records are completed by you in a correct and clear manner.
  • To adopt a standard of conduct, manner and bearing that will encourage prisoners to make a positive response to prison treatment.
  • You must ensure that all personal protective equipment required to carry out your duties, is used in the correct manner, stored correctly and if damaged or unsuitable for any reason is replaced.
  • Deal with works prisoner issues, setting tasks to match the ability whilst ensuring that safety and production are maintained at all times.
  • To complete records to ensure that accurate and fair payment is allotted to prisoners within the required timescales, actively seeking to employ sufficient prisoners to maintain the role.
  • To carry out any additional tasks set out by your Line Manager. .
  • To ensure that both national and local policies on Race Relation and Equal Opportunities are conformed with at all times

      Skills & Qualifications

      Applicants will have either completed a recognised apprenticeship in their trade or attained NVQ level 3 and have relevant experience.

          Salary:
          £17,261 - £18,602

              Annual Leave

              On entry most posts offer between 22 days and 25 days per year, with senior posts attracting an annual leave allowance of 30 days on entry. On top of this you will also receive public and privilege holidays. Leave for part-time and job share posts will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

              The Prison Service offers a childcare vouchers scheme. The scheme enables staff to take part of their salary in the form of Childcare Vouchers. This is known as a Salary Sacrifice. The vouchers can then be used to help meet the costs of any form of registered or approved childcare for children aged 0 -16. The vouchers are exempt from tax and National Insurance contributions.

              Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS)

              All Prison Officers and those working in regulated activity will be subject to the provisions of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. This seeks to ensure those who are deemed unsuitable from working with children and vulnerable adults are prevented from working in particular work settings or undertaking work of a specified nature. Barred individuals who seek to undertake work with vulnerable groups will be subject to criminal penalties.
