Graduate Mechanical Engineer - North West [01/30/2010] |

| Job Purpose | To provide mechanical engineering services within UU’s project delivery structure. To participate in the development of United Utilities’ Engineering standards, systems and procedures. | | Role details, Skills, Experience, Behaviours | Within 12 to 24 months, the post holder is expected to have gained good knowledge and experience of industry and company techniques for pumping and the appliance of mechanical equipment on water and wastewater treatment plants. The application of new and existing technologies to deliver commissionable, operable and maintainable installations within the regulatory framework is fundamental to the role.
The post holder shall also develop an understanding of the interfaces with other engineering disciplines such as civil, hydraulic, process, electrical etc. These are key requirements in order to deliver robust, reliable, repeatable & cost effective solutions.
Within 12-24 months, the post holder will have gained knowledge of the operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of the proposed engineering solutions. The post holder will be expected to develop and increase this knowledge.
With in 12-24 months, the post holder will have acquired some knowledge and experience of process and construction risk analysis techniques such as; HAZOP, HAZCON, HAZAN, HAZCOM and PEAZ. The post holder will be expected to develop and increase this knowledge and experience. The post holder will be required to work on their own, initially under the supervision of more senior staff, and also as a member of a team.
Knowledge of the regulatory environment is important in meeting our objectives and the post holder will be expected to gain this knowledge from work experience and training. The post holder will also be expected to communicate concepts and ideas regarding the application of particular designs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Good communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise, accurate engineering design specifications and reports with measurable outputs are required. | | Essential Criteria | A BEng, BSc or MEng in Mechanical Engineering, accredited with the IMechE, that will enable the post holder to progress to chartered status within 2 to 4 years.
