| Responsibilities |  | Reporting to the Database and Development Team Lead this individual will fulfill several key responsibilities for the Research Applications Group. The first and primary area of responsibility is reporting. This person will be responsible for the overall architecture of the reporting environment and will assist in determining the future strategies in order to best support business needs. The person will also be responsible for the creation of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports and ad hoc users requested reports, as well as handling support for new and existing reports. In addition to those primary areas the individual will need to be able to provide assistance in simplifying and streamlining the data flow between heterogeneous systems using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and other third party ETL tools as required. They key areas that this individual will focus on using SSIS are application performance, architecture, and stability. This individual will also be involved in the day to day database administration duties and will provide assistance and guidance to the Research Application Group¿s DBA team and also provide assistance and best practice recommendations on query writing and SQL performance to the application development team. - Convert user requests into custom report specifications by understanding/clarifying the nature of the problem(s) being solved. - Write queries in order to extract needed information from using multiple data sources. - Create and maintain SSIS packages to assist in ETL processes related to reporting. - Perform data import, storage, cleansing, and delivery processes improvement. - Design business processes for improved quality and efficiencies with less manual intervention, variation, and fewer handoffs. - Design and indexing of complex data structures, perform database migrations, evaluate storage, and testing of database systems. - Document all reports, packages, processes and procedures in concise language. - Assist in the creation and distribution data for ad hoc report requests. - Monitor logical database integrity, investigate inconsistencies, and make recommendations to DB owner regarding best method to rectify data inconsistencies. - Analyze data reports in order to observe correlations, relationships, patterns, and trends, assisting in the development of strategic recommendations and action plans. - Assist with the creation of summary reports and presentations to share with business units, management, customers, and partners. - Assume a leadership role with the department's Business Intelligence initiatives using Microsoft and other third party technologies. - Assist DBA team with data and environment related requests. - Provide guidance to application development team regarding SQL Server development best practices. |  | Qualifications |  | - A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Science, or the equivalent in other education/experience is required. MBA or advanced technical degree preferred. - 7+ years of database experience including administration, development, reporting, and ETL. - Full product development life cycle process required. - Transact SQL Server experience and some experience with ETL tools (Expert level in SSIS) - Reporting experience required in SSRS (reporting services). - BS Degree in a related field or equivalent experience - Excellent interpersonal/communications skills and effective writing experience required - Must be motivated, self-starter, independent and possess the ability to learn quickly | Job Type: Permanent Location: Maryland-Prince George's County
