The Met Office Technology and Information Services (TIS) programme delivers innovative software solutions to meet business requirements, ranging from tools to store, manipulate and expose new data, to requirements from commercial and government customers for new services. The key goal is to facilitate the delivery of the Met Office’s world-leading science to customers using world-leading technology solutions.

The primary focus of this role will be the delivery of web- and mobile-based solutions to meet customer requirements. You will be expected to be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements elicitation and capture, design, development and roll out to customers. As part of our ongoing IT strategy development, you will work at the cutting edge of technology and innovation.

As Technical Lead you will take responsibility for leading the development of new services delivered via the web, forming the crucial link between the development team and the customer. You will work with Business Analysts and customers on identifying potential technical solutions during project inception. Additionally, you will be liaising regularly with IT Architects to influence and implement IT strategy and will have the opportunity to learn new skills associated with leading-edge technologies.

To provide technical leadership in the planning, development and support of products and services that are delivered via the web, providing technical solutions in accordance with Met Office IT strategy and ensuring products and services are delivered in accordance with recognised best practice
