Film Conversion Manufacturing Engineer - Cambridge - Mass. [01/03/2010] |

Key Responsibilities -
This engineer will lead the effort to develop and optimize processes at manufacturing partners for display conversion of imaging film from rolls into piece parts. This person will work on multiple levels, ensuring that high-level project goals are realized while simultaneously using a hands-on approach to deliver robust manufacturing processes. This engineer will: - Manage external manufacturing projects with partner companies.
- Develop, implement, and optimize conversion processes for new and existing imaging film products (including laser cutting, die cutting, sheeting, barcode application, and inspection).
- Develop incoming, in-process and outgoing manufacturing specifications for converted imaging film products.
- Provide technical support for external conversion of E Ink electrophoretic imaging films.
- Provide technical support for internal E Ink pilot imaging film conversion operations.
- Integrate with cross-functional teams to support qualification of new imaging film products and support existing production of imaging film products.
- Lead defect root cause analysis to improve imaging film manufacturing yield.
- Direct change management and supplier process Corrective Action Request (CAR) resolution
- Travel – up to 1-2 weeks per quarter for international suppliers and frequent visits to local manufacturing partners.
Qualifications - BS/MS in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
- Experience with developing and qualifying semi-automated and manual manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience optimizing the efficiency and scaling up the capacity of piece part manufacturing processes.
- Experience in evaluation of optical grade films and optical defect inspection.
- Demonstrated experience scaling up prototype processes to high volume manufacturing processes.
