Your role as Field Engineer will be to support and to provide assistance to a Delivery Engineer in ensuring the effective day-to-day utilisation of resources and prioritisation of work within the tasks/projects allocated. Working as an integral member of a mobile workforce, you will work within all functions of Maintenance Delivery Electricity – Substations, you will be required to adopt a flexible approach to work and its completion so as to minimise cost. The Field Engineer is responsible for the management of a team, and to deliver work as directed by the Delivery Engineer / Manager. Typically you will manage multiple tasks concurrently at various locations, with large numbers of staff of mixed ability, including contractors. You will be undertaking a range of duties on plant and equipment which may include maintenance, site delivery of projects, commissioning, complex fault inspection and repair, safety implementation and monitoring, supervising internal and monitoring external staff to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness and safety. Experience in Substations work and/or on HV cable systems is beneficial. You will have an in depth technical knowledge relating to the electrical and safety aspects of Substation Plant, together with fault-finding expertise and Plant analysis. Environmental knowledge and experience is also required in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations. Due to the nature of the role you will need to be competent in planning, people-management, communicating and supervising, in order to lead large groups of staff and to achieve efficient completion of tasks. You will also have demonstrable skills in expenditure management and control of budgets. You will have the equivalent to Senior Authorised Person status with the ability to co-ordinate routine or emergency response work within this safety conscious environment across a large range of equipment, and the ability to commission of equipment to recognised standards and procedures. Demonstrable project delivery experience is also required. You will have an HNC (or above) or equivalent in an engineering subject, and qualifications leading to membership of Institute of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) or similar professional body. Senior Authorised Person status under National Grid Safety Rules is advantageous, as is IOSH Managing Safely. A full driving license is required.
