Duties:The Associate Director (AD) for Adult/Adolescent Services of the MA Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program is a senior management position with primary responsibility for ensuring the delivery of quality SANE services statewide. This position oversees operations to ensure standardization of SANE practice and service delivery by SANEs on a 24/7 basis across all regions of the state. The AD manages the program’s 6 Regional Coordinators in 7 regions of the state, who have direct responsibility for SANE services in 27 SANE designated hospitals. The AD oversees quality assurance and service delivery activities and works with the Division of Violence and Injury Prevention and Health Care Quality at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) to ensure compliance with SANE Protocols and MOU requirements at these sites. The Associate Director helps to identify areas for protocol or policy change, develop protocols and policies (in consultation with the SANE Advisory Board and MDPH) and implements such changes on a statewide operational level. This position will work with other statewide partners to develop program policies to assist victims with access to multiple service needs in addition to ensuring compliance of SANE standards at existing SANE sites. This position will also be responsible for implementing any service improvements and or expansion of services across the state.
The AD position is essential in helping to meet the program’s mission of providing statewide quality sexual assault services. To this end, the AD works with other statewide partners (District Attorney’s Offices, Police Departments, Rape Crisis Centers, State and Boston Crime Labs, Disabled Persons Commission) to ensure quality, victim sensitive response systems. The AD is also instrumental in assessing statewide training needs and coordinating educational activities. Such activities include coordination of SANE certification trainings as needed, coordination of yearly SANE Update trainings, and the coordination of regional trainings to medical providers and other partner agencies. The AD works in tandem with the Pediatric SANE Associate Director to meet educational goals and other program goals for patients across the lifespan. The AD position reports directly to the SANE Program Director.
Qualifications:The Associate Director candidate must be registered nurse (preferably MS or MSN) with a minimum of 10 years nursing experience and have completed the MA DPH SANE Training Curriculum or comparable training. The AD must be an expert SANE clinician with a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of MA SANE protocols. Current or previous experience as a Regional Coordinator is preferred. The AD must hold a RN license in MA or be eligible for reciprocity. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in management, program planning, monitoring and evaluation. In addition, excellent writing, public speaking, negotiation and communication skills are essential.
